Today as part of our Green/Blue Week, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Riley Hathaway from Young Ocean Explorers.
Our class, with the rest of the school, listened intently as she described some of the amazing creatures found in the waters around New Zealand and around the world. She talked about problems we are facing in our oceans but also about ways we can all help to solve those problems.
Riley showed us how long a Bryde whale is. |

DeleteKia Ora, my name is Lila and I’m from Room 7 at Owairaka District School. I really liked your blog post about Riley from Young Ocean Explorers. I liked this video about picking up 1 bit of rubbish a day to make a difference because they showed you how the rubbish travels to get to the sea.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm Franny,
I think the coolest thing today was how mussels filter water!
They are soooooo delicious but fisherman should not dig up so many.
There will be less fish and also less mussels.
A good way to stop would be to make mussels more expensive. I think seeing fish was one of the coolest things so if there disappearing because of this we won't get that experience again!
Here's a link to a video about it:

I thought Riley's assembly was awesome today. I like how she encouraged us to do small things every day to help the ocean. We can do it!
